RISE-IN 1st Webinar: Building Resilient Cities Together

The webinar “RISE-IN: Building Resilient Cities Together” took pace on March 30th 2026, and showcased the RISE-IN approach to transforming cities into living labs for sustainable, scalable, and financially attractive climate interventions. The event brought together the project’s three Demo Cities to discuss the Climate Resilient Solutions they will develop and implement throughout the project.

NEED

urgent need for innovative, scalable, and financially viabe  adaptation strategies

As climate change intensifies flood risks across Europe and beyond, there is an urgent need for innovative, scalable, and financially viable adaptation strategies. Organised within the framework of the RISE-IN project, this webinar presented a transformative approach to climate resilience by combining Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) with financial innovation to unlock investment and ensure long-term sustainability.

The session opened with an introduction to the RISE-IN project by Politecnico di Milano, the project coordinator, outlining the project’s main objectives and its distinctive approach.

Afterwards, the three Demo Cities presented their real-life testbeds for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Climate Resilient Solutions. These experiences demonstrated how ecological restoration, river basin management, and coastal resilience strategies can be integrated with innovative financing models to generate lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Cesena (Italy) highlighted its efforts to enhance climate resilience and ecological restoration along the Savio River, aiming to reduce flood risks while promoting sustainable land and water management. Christchurch (New Zealand) presented the restoration of the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor as a key initiative to strengthen climate resilience and adapt to sea-level rise. Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal) showcased actions in the Alto River Basin focused on riverbank restoration, improved coastal defences, and the creation of ecological corridors.
